Water Access Licences (WALs) entitle licence holders:
- to specified shares in the available water within a particular water management area or water source (the share component)
- to take water at specified times, rates or circumstances from specified areas or locations (the extraction component).
The Water Management Act 2000 recognises that a WAL is a valuable asset. It is typically held by the owner, the bank issuing the mortgage loan, or the owners solicitor. It is generally required to be conveyed from the existing owner to the new owner when transferred.
A new edition of the WAL is issued when the Water Access Licence changes ownership and when other transactions occur, such as registration of a mortgage.
This search shows the current edition number of the Water Access Licence, to whom it was delivered (or that it is held at NSW LRS), the date of issue, and the status date. If the status date and the issue date are different, this indicates that a transaction occurred that affected the title but did not cause a new Certificate to be issued.
